About Beatztobeat
Beatztobeat
Beatztobeat makes beats for people who already suspect the room they are standing in was built so they would stay in it.

01 // The hole
Down, and the falling takes a while
Every producer has a first loop they could not get out of. Mine was four bars of a sampled choir, slowed until the voices stopped being voices, running at three in the morning while the rest of the building slept. I did not make it. I fell into it.
That is the part nobody prints on a beat tape. You do not write the pattern — you find the seam in it, the place where the tiling repeats and the whole thing shows you it was assembled. Wonderland is not a fantasy. It is what the ordinary world looks like once you have seen the seam.
02 // The chase
Following something that is always already gone
The work is hunting. Crate dust, tape hiss, a choir from a record nobody credits, a clock that ticks a hair off the grid. I pitch it down until it stops being music and starts being weather. Then I build the drums under it so the whole thing has a floor to stand on.
A beat is finished when it makes the room feel slightly wrong — when the low end sits half a frame behind where your body expects it. That is the trick and it is not a trick. It is the rabbit disappearing around the corner, always one bar ahead.
03 // The ninety-nine
A hard edge in a world with none
Everything streams forever now. Nothing ends, nothing sells out, nothing is ever gone — and so nothing is ever really had. The edition is the answer to that. Ninety-nine pieces, numbered, made after you order, never made again.
Not scarcity as a sales tactic. Scarcity as the only honest way left to say that a thing happened at a particular time and then stopped. The watch is dripping for a reason. Every beat is a countdown.
Every beat is a countdown.
